Thursday 13 - Things I've recently learned

1. A clean home is a happy home and happy is sure hard to come by!
2. No matter how much they beg and plead with you never let an adult sibling move in with you. They'll never leave and if they do manage to leave they'll just keep coming back!
3. Never ever put your glasses on the dashboard while the window is open. You'll regret it later when you're picking your flattened glasses up out of the middle of the street.
4. Sometimes tough love is the only love some people understand.
5. Visiting a nursing home is an eye opening experience. Some things just aren't as important as we think.
6. Gas is expensive, groceries and bills are higher and vacations are a thing of the past but at least we can still walk to the library!
7. Children appreciate their toys more when you take them away for a while - the toys, not the children.
8. It's fun to spend money but not so fun when it's time to balance the checkbook. Shoppers remorse is a bad, bad thing!
9. Stress can do strange things to your body - don't even ask!
10. Holidays are superficial. Everyone deserves to be treated special everyday.
11. Communion bread is really simple to make but finding the perfect recipe for it is not so simple.
12. Blogging is not a necessity of life but it sure feels good.
13. Having a new fancy scale with lots of gizmos and features is a fun thing to have...until you realize it's weighing you exactly 4 pounds more than your old one.

That's not fair atall!

My broken glasses made me and the hubby think of this Twilight Zone episode. This is probably one of our all time favorite episodes. If you've never seen this episode before then let me set you up with a brief background. This guy (played by the awesome Burgess Meredith) is just a quiet and meek bank teller who also happens to be a bibliophile (lover of books & reading - just like the hubby & me *grin*). He wants nothing more in life than time to read but he never gets that time because he has a nagging wife and a nagging boss always on his case. One day he sneaks off into the bank vault during one of his lunch breaks to find some precious reading time. While in the vault - unbeknownst to him - a bomb is dropped on the city and that's where this video starts from. This is just the last segment of the episode but it's the most important part:

If you could see our bookshelves and the massive stack of books *on top my treadmill* you would understand why we love this episode. This would be our best dream and worst nightmare all in one. My husband wanted me to take a pic of the broken glasses on top the pile of books but I was too ashamed to let you see that my treadmill is covered with books LOL!

*Note* I just realized that you can see a pile of books behind my head in the picture of me in my glasses lol.

Wordless Wednesday - *Gasp* She posted!

Yeah don't fall over, it really is a post from me lol.
Remember these pretty blue glasses of mine?

Well here's what they look like now:

You're probably wondering what kind of abuse and torture I did to these poor things lol. Well it was a really dumb move on my part. The kids and I were waiting in the car yesterday for my sister. I was talking on the cellphone to my step dad and decided to take my glasses off (sometimes the arms hurt my ears while I'm on the phone) and set them on the dashboard in front of me. Yesterday was a fairly warm day and I had the windows down (you know where I'm going with this - don't you lol). We started driving and I had completely forgotten that I had taken them off - I can see fine without them except for reading signs that are far away and I can't read the little green street names without them. While we were driving I realized they were off my face and I could see out the corner of my eye that they were still on the dash in front of me. They were kind of behind the steering wheel so that's why I really didn't notice them at first. I just figured when we stopped I would put them back on because I really didn't want to try to put them on while I was driving. We got to where we were going and I noticed they were gone from the dashboard. I thought maybe they fell on the floor so we looked all over for them and didn't find them. That's when I put two and two together and this really big fat duh moment came over me lol. I realized that they must have slid right off the dash and out the window. We went back and retraced our steps and sure enough there they lay, already run over, smashed and flattened, in the middle of a very busy intersection. These are my favorite pair of glasses and I was disappointed to see them get broken but I was thankful that they weren't my $350 pair from LensCrafters. I got these from a place online called Zenni Optical. They were only about $25 with shipping and included the anti-reflective coating. If you wear prescription glasses I highly recommend ordering from this place. The glasses are very nice and they get them to you fairly quickly. All you need to know is your prescription - with your pupil distance (be sure to ask your doc for this because some of them won't give it to you to keep you from ordering glasses elsewhere). So I guess I get to place another order here soon and I'll probably order some prescription sunglasses while I am it and this time I won't leave them on the dashboard - at least not with the window open anyway :-).

I'm such a dork

Wow I haven't posted in over a week. I think that's because I've been hanging out over at yahoo answers lately. This has been a crazy week, a crazy past couple of months...and I don't know, the year isn't even half over yet and I already feel like I've had the wind knocked out of me. I know some good will come out of this year, it has to, after all I've been through over the years, this just has to be my good year. There are a few people right now that I just want to shake but...*big sigh*...eventually this too will pass! Anyway, I am a dork because I had to go look up a phone number and schedule on this certain website so that I could schedule my kids immunizations for the year. Why does looking on a certain website make me a dork?..because....... I DESIGNED THE SITE! Yeah, go ahead and laugh at me and make many numerous jokes about the nut job web designer who can't even remember information she posted. :-)
Well I hope all of your weeks are going better than mine. Please keep my family in your prayers, we certainly need it!
Off to go clean my house now so that I can have roto-rooter over to fix our sewer and charge us an arm and a leg or two.

Elora's Light - A Touching Story

Ohio mom returns to Tennessee waterfall where bear killed daughter
I read this article this morning and it really touched me. I read the story a couple years ago when it happened and my first thought was that the little girl was the same exact age as my daughter. This womans faith is amazing. I just cannot imagine. Read the story, but keep a tissue box close by.
